PAUL SG - NARROW MIND/NO NEED TO PRETEND [DIGITAL BLUS 017]

PAUL SG is back at it again on Blu Saphir’s sister label. Collaborating with label owner, Jay Rome earlier this year, Paul brings two beautiful solo rollers forth with Narrow Mind and No Need to Pretend. As expected, the atmospherics brought forth will raise the vibe of any venue it touches, from a rave to a club to a lounge.

A: NARROW MIND
B: NO NEED TO PRETEND

RELEASE DATE: JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2012

NARROW MIND:

Led in by dreamy pads, “woosh” type effects, blips and a reverberating vocal, Narrow Mind’s squelchy bassline drops as Paul SG’s signature style hits the floor. Chilled out by nature but still very danceable, lovely rhodes chords make their entrance. As this number nears its end, legato saxophone riffs ring out in the distance adding atmosphere and depth.

PAUL SG - NARROW MIND (DIGITAL BLUS 017/FORTHCOMING) by BLU SAPHIR MUSIC GROUP

NO NEED TO PRETEND:

The hi-hat chimes while filtered effects rush forward into the first drop. Aggressive, driving drums hit the floor while the bassline lulls the listener. Make no mistake about it though – you won’t be sitting around for this one. After one round of liquid bliss, the chopped up sample leads into the second drop to roll out to the end.

FLOWRIAN - DONT CARE / IMPROVISATION [DIGITAL BLUS 016]

DIGIBLUS016 – FLOWRIAN

A: DON’T CARE
B: IMPROVISATION

RELEASE DATE: OCTOBER 2011

SUPPORT BY: FURNEY, PAUL SG, FABIO, BASSFACE SASCHA, LTJ BUKEM

DON’T CARE:

Flowrian’s opening number on this release, “Don’t Care” is a feast to the ears. Even from the beginning, we get treated to articulate drum work, beautiful, melodic atmospheres and a multitude of instruments. Piano arpeggios are lit up by a shallow reverb as the vocal comes flying through. The bass stays chunky throughout, giving this inspirational number its shape. The break comes, emphasized by hi-hats and the a capella vocal. Then comes round two, inviting the listener to soak up the melodic composure once again.

IMPROVISATION:

Sweeping Rhodes chords introduce the second of release number seventeen. The bassline remains subtle but exposed as the drums crescendo to the first vocal sample. Brass horn stabs add to the body, while synthesized sax riffs illuminate the backdrop. An additional piano lends its chord structure to reversed drum hits, which lead back into the drop. You might feel inspired to dig through the jazz crates after going through this one a few times.

CAPSIKA - A BIT OF A SADNESS / HIDE WITH ME [DIGITAL BLUS 015]

Capsika is a 22 year-old producer from Manchester specializing in what he calls “bongos ‘n bass.” With upcoming releases on Influenza Media, Point Audio, and Digital Blus (of course), this master of luscious, jazzy soundscapes will have all eyes on him in the future. In addition to drum’n bass, the British man also produces house and experimental music under the moniker, Matthew Matix.

A: CAPSIKA: HER DREAM SELF
B: CAPSIKA: STARS COLLIDE

A: HER DREAM SELF

As you sleep, this jazzy reality is playing through your brain. It’s only a matter of time before you wake up realizing that you’ve got this beautiful woman in your life. Modulated melodies ride in the background, while the full drums create a soundscape of fullness. Ominous sax riffs and exuberant pads fill the air before the deep vocal takes the stage. In an age of reused samples, ideas and creativity, the Manchester man has definitely stepped up the bar, turning a drum ‘n bass production into something more of an orchestral score.

CAPSIKA - HER DREAM SELF ( DIGITAL BLUS 015 - 2011DUB ) by BLU SAPHIR MUSIC GROUP

B: STARS COLLIDE

Just as in “Her Dream Self,” Capsika’s second tune for DIGIBLUS is another vocal smasher of technical mastery. The vocal shows up early, as pads come together in a opulent jigsaw puzzle. The bassline creates circling warmth. Panned Rhodes chords drop in and out of fluttering drums. We arrive at the center of the tune, bringing in the half-step vibe before letting the drums take control again. The vocal continues its sublime journey, finishing up another brilliant release.

A: SUNNY CRIMEA: A BIT OF SADNESS
B: SUNNY CRIMEA: HIDE WITH ME

A: A BIT OF SADNESS

Opening in half time, a simple vocal sample brings the vibes amongst warm, layered synth textures. The drum fill drops and bass lead to the euphoric drop. The melody rolls through, bringing attention to just how big this tune really is. The break brings ecstatic pads and the half time feel once again. Fans of Hospital, Horizons, Creative Source, Influenza and other deep drum & bass labels will fall in love with this one.

SUNNY CRIMEA - A BIT OF A SADNESS ( DIGITAL BLUS 014 - 2011 DUB ) by BLU SAPHIR MUSIC GROUP

B: HIDE WITH ME

Psychedelic wavy effects open up this number in a Pink Floyd-esque fashion, as smooth Rhodes chords, and legato saxes and trumpets riff add to the atmosphere. Chimes enhance the ambiance while bass-heavy drums drive forward. Trumpet riffs continue while bongos come in from the rear. The drop follows, connecting all of these elements atop a swift, moving bassline. Additional brass stabs build the track’s intensity. Synth chords and phase effects “scream out” at the midpoint, making the listener feel as if they’re being taken out of this world. The Rhodes come around again in the break as castanets lead to a second drop of melody madness. Pure quality on this release! This is what deep drum ‘n bass is all about!
